i got a phone call from the hotel sofitel (which is directly across the water from where i work) and they have a position open for a full time pastry chef. O_O **sigh**

back to putting files into folders.

let me try to explain. i owe my mother $500 rent each month. i owe nearly $300 on my truck. i owe nearly $140 each month for my phone bill (which i'm going to be cutting back once the contract expires.). if you add that up plus gas and feeding and other essentials...i can not live on what they would offer me. the most they offer (from what i've learned at other interviews) is $10/hr. i'm making $13.50 and barely getting by now. it's just not possible

I'd at least give them a call back, Janie, and ask them what they'd be willing to pay you. Tell them that you need to be making at least 13.75 and see if they'll meet it. Please don't just listen to an outside source; go right to the horse's mouth (or in this case, the Hotel's mouth) and find out for certain.

the ironic part:

i just got this temp gig with a company that likes me and is willing to bring me on for $18.75/hr full time with bennies. the most any pastry job could possibly offer for someone who has *zero* experience in a kitchen is $10. do the math. and the fact that they are literally JUST across the water and i see that hotel every day from where i park and pine for that job........therein lies the irony.

As stated above, I'd call and ask them what the pay is. I won't hurt to ask. Is it likely it won't pay enough, but if you don't ask you'll never know.

I'm with the group on calling and finding out what the job is going to pay.

Your dream is important to you and speaking as a person who had to give that up, it isn't all that great. I miss the kitchen more and more everyday. I don't go back to Paragon as much as I should because I will want to go back to working in the kitchen... and I just can't afford that right now.
