my sister called me and asked me if there would be someone at costco to write something on a cake. i said...try it why not? so she did. there wasn't anyone there. so i said...get a cake and i'll write on it. it wasn't that she didn't want me to write on it...it just didn't fit into her schedule. so...she did just that. she brought home a very nice white frosted cake with a heart and in the middle she wanted me to write "special friends". so i did. it didn't turn out as great as the peope at costco would have done, but it worked enough for her. then i put some small hearts around it and made it look less monotone. the piping i was doing was in pink. very nice with the white. so then tisa in all her brilliance said "i want to try to do it auntie", so i told her we would get a piece of paper and she could write on that. so once i had the cake done and wrapped up, i got a paper plate and changed the tip to a star tip for her. she very nearly wrote her name. the plate was too small. so then i decided we would make a heart shaped cookie for her teacher 'cos she was out with a broken leg. so we got some sugar cookie dough from the fridge (they're circle shapes), and we shaped them on a sheet pan into a heart shape. it turned out pretty kool actually. once it cooled, tisa and i made plans about what we would put on the cookie. we put the star tip on and filled the bag. then tisa said she wanted to write her name. surprisingly...she actually did an amazing job. it looked just like it would have if she had written it with a pen!!! i was amazed. i took a picture but i need to get it off my phone and into the computer. that's the next step. so then she let me write on the cookie "we miss you!" and we put stars around the edge. i let her do the last 5 stars. she did a really great job....i mean...she's 3 years old!!! well almost 4. i hope hope hope that she will continue to be interested in working with me on baking and decorating and NOT just because she wants to eat the frosting ^_^. we'll see how it ends up. she might just get bored with it eventually, but since it's all she remembers about me from the 2nd year of her life...it's what she's used to. she always had cakes in the house or breads in the house while i was in school, and i'm sure she misses that.

we'll see. one day...i'll do it again.

Took cookie dough out of the fridge? I am surprised at you! For shame... didn't you know you can't use pre-made any longer? ;)
