due to unforseen issues in my life i have decided to go friends only. i have made changes to my friends list as well. if you would like to be added, please let me know. explain to me why i should add you, where you know me, and if you plan on dropping a drama bomb in my lap. if you're already on my friends list then you're fine. if you think you've been dropped or you want to be added...comment here and i will make that decision. i'm done with the drama.
just wanted to say thank you to everyone here who has been keeping our family in their thoughts and prayers. this holiday season is going to be difficult. we're keeping the tradition of putting up christmas decorations because this was one of mom's favorite holidays. she loved putting the ornaments on the tree. it's difficult to see the box with her ashes in her room, but that's where she is for now. she will be buried at Holy Cross in Colma with her son Michael. i just hope that we can move forward without looking back.
Sorry this is delayed in posting, but it's been quite the rollercoaster ride.

Katherine Mary (Kempers) Bartolotti (Kay) resident of South San Francisco aged 75 years old passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at her home with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 54 years Donald Bartolotti, her daughters Joanne and Janine, her granddaughter Teresa Santana, and her dog Fritz. She was preceded in death by her parents Hans and Josephine Kempers, her son Michael Bartolotti, and her in-laws in the Bartolotti & Campana families. She will be missed dearly by her sisters Elizabeth and Marge (Kenny), brothers James (Charlotte) and Daniel (Emma), and her sister-in-law Dilva as well as many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces/nephews. Diagnosed with gallbladder cancer in September of 2009, Kay fought the battle with the help of the Kaiser Hospital Orchid Center team and the Kaiser Hospice team. Born and raised in the Bayview District of San Francisco, Kay loved the city and often took family friends on visits to places only locals would know. Kay grew up on Oakdale and Shafter Avenues in San Francisco, was a resident of Pacifica, San Bruno, Millbrae, and South San Francisco where she lived out her days with her family. She started working at a very young age at Transport Clearings where she met many friends and kept in touch with them often. Kay also worked at Bank of America, Dakin, Spieker Properties, World Res, Schumacher's Dance Studio, and after attempting to retire, worked as an assistant at St Robert's Extended Care. Kay loved to work in the garden tending to her roses, tomatoes, and strawberries with her granddaughter Teresa. She was a member of Mother's of All Faiths, Teamsters Union, and president of the Women's Guild of St Roberts in 1978-79.

Visitation will begin at 4pm with a Rosary following at 7pm at Duggan's Serra Mortuary in Daly City on Sunday 11/28/2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Veronica Church in SSF on Monday 11/29/2010 at 10 am. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery for family will be at a later date. Post from mobile portal m.livejournal.com
so...last year i put up a donation button to get some help with my birthday trip to disneyland. this year is a little different. i hope to be going to disneyland again, and [livejournal.com profile] daemnor has already booked the hotel. the trick this year is that i also need to smog my truck and get the license by the end of september. that is an extra bill i didn't have last year (well...the smog thing i didn't have last year anyway). so now i am i need of extra money instead of just the help with the disney trip.

so...here's the deal... )
not so safe anymore

We thawt we were all safe there. Like nothing could touch us. We were over 2000 strong. But something found its way into our little fortress. Our little fortress of a convention. My home away from home every may. We were safe inside our little city con every year for the last 20+ years (15 for me). But not anymore.

This evil that found its way into our town. Where did it come from? Who let it in? I know it wasn't me! Did it make its way in when our defenses were down? When we were forced to move from what we knew as home base? We found a new home and thawt we were safe again. We let our defenses down again. One of our own was struck. How many times has it happened? Do we know how many we've lost to this beast? Will it ever go away? Will we ever defeat it?

We have to build up our defenses again. We can't let it get in again. We can't let it win again. Who else will it take from us?

I didn't know him personally, but I have seen the magnetic personality of his other half. She always had a nice word to say. And now she is hurting from the loss of him...so I hurt. I'm sure she wouldn't know me from Adam in our little town, but for whatever reason, I feel her sorrow. I cry for her loss. I cry for my friends who were closer to both of them. I cry because it is very very real to me. I cry.

This evil was brought into our little fortress and it needs to be stopped. We can not fight it alone, so we fight it together. Cancer is its name, and it must be stopped.

2009
Rough night of sleeping last night. This was my dream: Apparently mission street was closed down for some sort of parade (mix between mummers and day of the dead). Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer were at a house with us in San Francisco making preparations for a party/concert which I volunteered to cook for, but was shot down (no offense really). Then there was some discussion about the shortening of words for text messages which turned into a discussion about the A- I got in a college english class because I spelled colour and favourite with an added U...the brittish way. At some point we were all in the kitchen and Neil was preparing chicken breasts for grilling and Amanda was laying on the counter reading. I eventually left and ended up walking down the street where I was caught in the parade. There were people there with protest signs and shaving cream writing messages in the street. As I was walking down the street, I became part of a game on a trolly car. we were part of the last group, but I couldn't participate because I was in so much pain. Apparently each time I breathed in, my muscles around my waist and stomach area would tense up so bad as to cause contractions and severe pain. (I don't know what to attribute that to except maybe my snoring, but how would that effect my lower abdomen?) The pain became so intense that I was literally screaming in my dream, and I think that's what woke me up. (This has happened to me before in my dreams. Several times in fact.)

A bit of explanation:
1) Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer were discussing Neil's birthday on twitter before I went to sleep.
2) I had recently watched a wedding show where the mummer's parade was discussed, and the day of the dead parade was just last week.
3) I have been wanting to cook for a large group of people for a long time, and that seems to be something that isn't going to happen...even in my dreams.

Whatever this is...it can go away now.
Roger Rabbit, Harry Brice, and Coincidences...

So...I've posted the hand drawn picture of Roger Rabbit done by silhouette cutter Harry Brice (I thought his last name was Price), and couldn't remember all the details of the encounter. So while I was at the park I inquired about him. I was told that he had retired about 13 years ago and only recently passed away. So...a-googling I did go, and I came up with this obituary:

"Harry W. Brice III Former Washington resident worked for Disneyland
Harry W. Brice III, 74, of Grand Terrace, Calif., died Saturday, September 5, 2009, in Loma Linda, Calif., following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 2, 1934, in Washington, a son of Harry and Mary Laws Brice. Mr. Brice graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and served in the Navy from 1953 to 1955. He worked at Disneyland in California for 20 years, as a silhouette cutter."

So...the bit that caught my eye was that he was born on the same day as me. I think, perhaps we had gone to the park on or around my birthday (maybe thanksgiving?); I had seen him working on the drawing (had to be after 1988 when the movie came out), and had remarked on it. I'm guessing I had said it was my birthday and he said it was his as well, so he gave me the drawing. Of course, I can't be sure that any of this is true. Since I have very few memories from when I was young.

So honestly it had to be less than 20 years ago 'cos in 88 I would have been turning 20. I'll have to think about this further 'cos it could have been when I was living down there with Brett.

I am a bit sad that he passed away before I could meet with him again. I know there are cast members at the park who can never be replaced (like maynard). I would love to become one of them. Soon...some day soon.
So I went on my annual trek to Disneyland this year, and I've just gotten back (more on the trip later). On the drive home yesterday, I was periodically checking in with mom. By the time I got to gilroy she told me that she and teresa (mostly teresa) had a surprise for me and could I get home sooner. I told her I would do my best to go faster and still be safe. When I finally got home, she called me and said I had to come up right away. So when I got to the top of the stairs, teresa was sitting there waiting for me. She jumped in my arms and gave me the biggest hugs ever! Then she took my hand and told me to cover my eyes. She brought me into the kitchen where she and nana had made all sorts of chocolate cupcakes. Teresa had frosted them and put decorations on them. She even put the spirally candles on them. She wanted to light them, and I suggested to do it tomorrow (meaning today). Mom said they had been working on it all night and forgot to go to gymnastics. I was *that* important. I'm sure my sister is gonna raise hell because now she'll have to schedule a make up class, but at that moment...*i* was important. It made me feel great. Then I got to open the cards and the gift bag. I got a pirate pencil, a mini water bottle (you know, for my tea when I leave), and she put her pumpkin trophy in there too. She said she won first place for her pumpkin at the birthday party. Such a perfect gift an auntie could ever ask for.

And now, I need to find myself some food. Back to the grind again
i'm reposting because i have already purchased my annual passport. i had a couple of babysitting jobs that have helped me pay for that. also...we weren't able to get the reservation for the happiest haunts tour, so that was tossed out in lieu of the Trick or Treat Party. so...here's the updated post:

you all know i'm not one of those people to admit defeat. you also know that i'm not one to *ask* for help straight out. i will do work for you to get paid, i will make something for you to get paid, i dont just take money without there being something that i need to do. i am caving to the suggestions that i just take money from my friends, but please remember...all of this money will go to my disneyland trip for my birthday...SO consider it YOUR birthday gift to ME (unless of course you want me to make something or bake something for you then it's work which i'm ok with!).

so...without further ado...i have created a donation link to pay-pal with which i now have a verified bank account attached, so it'll go directly into my BofA account. please be sure to include your address so i can send out thank you notes and possibly special surprises if there is an extra bit of money left.

so i was asked to watch two very wonderful little girls on saturday, and their mother also asked me to make a cake for her daughter's birthday which was sunday. i went to interview with them on monday this past week, and they took to me right away (which made me feel great). while i was there visiting with them, the mother asked me about the cake. so i asked the young one what she wanted. she suggested a yellow cake with coffee buttercream in the middle and chocolate buttercream on top. i thought that would be a good combination. then she thought about it and asked if the kids would like that. we talked for a bit and i suggested that we make a cake for the adults and a cupcake cake for the kids. i could make part chocolate cupcakes and part yellow cupcakes then frost them all together to make one big cake. both the little girl and the mom thought that was a great idea. then she could taste the yellow cake she wanted and still be able to serve the other kids. we talked about designs for the cake, and she said she likes flowers...orchids specifically. O_o ummmm i dont know of one 8 year old who likes orchids specifically. but...that's what the customer wants...that's what the customer will get.

so...i was engaged. i was to make a yellow cake with coffee buttercream filling (which i had never made) and chocolate buttercream on top AND...a chocolate and yellow cupcake cake with whatever frosting. both to be topped with some form of flowers at least one of which should be an orchid.

this is what i came up with (extremely picture heavy) )
well...those are the pictures of the cuppie cake...

and back here are the pictures of the yellow cake )

so there they are...my 2 latest cakes. i had no idea what i was going to do until i started creating. i think they turned out lovely.

note for mothers...the cuppie cakes are so very easy to do. if you are interested in learning, i can show you how easy they are. you can also make shapes with them (most shapes anyway) and make them look like certain things. they are the best idea ever because you dont have to worry about this person wanting the corner or this child complaining that she didn't get enough icing, etc. you should always make a little more than you think you will need in case you have parents who want cake also.
Buttercream Frosting recipe:
1 pound powdered sugar (sifted)
6 TB Butter (softened)
1/4 tsp salt (if you use salted butter, omit)
1/4 cup milk (or whipping cream)
1 tsp vanilla

Sift powdered sugar into bowl, add butter and beat (with paddle attachment- not whip) until combined. (start mixer out low or you will have PS all over YOU!)
Once combined, slowly add the milk and vanilla. At this point, it will get ugly before it gets smooth... don't panic.
Scrape down the bowl and mix a bit by hand, then put it back on the mixer.
At this point, if you want to make coffee buttercream, add one single serving scoop or packet of *instant* coffee granules. You may either use the paddle or whip at this point...on the *mixer* you sick people!!! Come on!!! :-P
The coffee will not dissolve right away. Let it sit overnight and mix again either by hand or with the mixer.

That's it y'all! That's the best buttercream I've ever made. You can double the recipe, but my mixer can't handle that much PS. One note: this buttercream will be smooth when you put it on, but dries a little stiff. If you need to use it another day and it seems too thick add milk a little at a time to get the right consistency.
a friend of mine owns this corset, but it doesn't fit me or her. she gave me permission to sell it for her. the measurement around the waist is 46" tied tight with no space in the back. it has shoulder straps that can be removed if you wish. the style is similar to the Dark Garden Sweetheart Victorian with straps seen here.

front pic (i would say at least a C cup or a D cup could fit into it)

more pix and measurements back here )
i just took the "how will YOU get kicked out of walmart" quiz and got:

You hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, you yelled "PICK ME! PICK ME!": Although you were just coming in from the bar and it was 3 a.m. and you just wanted an extra Red Bull to keep you awake, they still called the police.
