lokizmomnot only are there canadian geese at our lagoon outside of work, but there are also jelly fish in the lagoon. not sure why or how...but they're there. also...there's a family of sparrows (i'm pretty sure that's what they are) that fly around the gounds. one of them seems to either like me or hate me a lot 'cos he's (she's) always trying to buzz the tower as it were. whenever i'm sitting near the lagoon he always flies right past me really close. sparrow??? are you trying to tell me something??? ~_O

Date: 2007-07-10 05:17 am (UTC)ok about 15 years ago a russian frieghter accidentally infected the bay with jellyfish. these russian jellyfish rally groove on brakish water. hence our having a ton of them in the petaluma river.
a lagoon is brakish water. it only takes a two jellyfish to wash into said lagoon during a flood or extra high tide. after that they breed like rabbits.
if these are indeed the same kind of jellyfish the range from about the width of a quarter to the width of a half dollar. in lentgh the get to be about 6 inches long on the large side. they are also kinda white-ish.
if it's not those jellyfish then well the flood, brakish water rule still apply to the bays species of jellyfish. mostly i think because it's warmer toward the shores, and their is more sea life they will eat in the tidal pools etc.
but thats just my nonmarinebiologist guess.
