so...there's a potential for a file clerk position here, and i need to know how much i should ask for. what would a person off the street ask for as a salary? i have zero experience except for what i've been doing here for 8 months.

Anywhere from $10 to $18 per hour depending on skills and experience. You can get a better idea by looking at caljobs http://www.caljobs.ca.gov/ (username and password required, your local EDD office can give this to you)

In my experience the first person to name a number in a business negotiation loses. Keep your mouth shut until they name something.

well i know that right now i'm getting $15 which puts the price from the temp agency at about $17 or $18. so at least i know where to start from.

i agree with Drewkitty. still take a look at what they've been paying you for the position and add whatever you think they are paying the temp agency. that'll give you a basic number to hope for.

WOW! i would love to have an apartment like that for less than 1,000! here, there are studio apartments that are the size of a closet going for 800 bux!

thanks for the reference point. i hope things are going well for you.
