in which J9 goes on and on about baycon...

so...it's over. and now we're on to the mini-baycon. what can i say about this weekend? well...let's see. it goes a little something like this:
thursday was load in. it went very well actually. i was amazed at the abilities of my crew. i mean i knew they were a well honed machine, but i never expected this. we were down one because of a family emergency... not a problem we still made it happen. we got the badges counted in the morning (many thanks to
sylvan for helping with that), and then to con-ops. someone took the guest & GoG badges to program ops and those were checked off as well. by the time all the weasels got there, the carts had been delivered and i was on the second half of my first pack of cloves. (count the cloves ladies and gentlemen...this will eventually explain why i have no voice.) eventually we got the closet thing figured out and were cleaned up by sometime around 10ish? not too bad for a thursday night. i honestly have little memory of what happened after that...i'm sure there was some meandering about the hotel and i'm sure i ate at some point.
friday morning came a little too early for me. i went to the exec meeting and dealt with that...we had a good reg count, and everyone was happy. eventually i made it down to reg and saw that everything was handled, so i went back to the room and showered and put up my hair. (if anyone has any pictures of me in my 80's outfit... please send them my way. i would love to see exactly what everyone else was seeing) i got so many compliments about the fact that i made the 80's look good. it was kinda funny 'cos nearly everything i was wearing i would have worn back then. the turquoise blue leg warmers were actually from the 80's. OH and i wore make up....i NEVER wear makeup. we had the CD player doing the 80's music thing, and that made me happy. i was walking on sunshine and dancing around the desk a little too much. at one point, we went to the bar and all got a shot...for which i paid and was happy to put out the money for. our team was awesome, and they knew it...they heard it from me enough times. there was some other stuff that happened, but i honestly dont remember. let's go on to the next day shall we? (pretty sure i was going on to the next pack of cloves at this point--so that would be about 20 down...)
saturday i went to the exec meeting and told them our concerns. we were doing well...but we didn't want to wait until the end of the night when all the laundry was done *before* we could put stuff away, so there were arrangements made for that. kirk was understanding and we both went by his counting schedule to get stuff done in there since we had to work together. (mid morning...25 cloves down) today i got to go by the dealers room for a bit 'cos i had to drop something off to vicky. it was nice, but nothing jumped out at me. i think perhaps i took paulie in with me...but that might have been sunday. by around noonish, i was complaining that i wouldn't be able to be in the masquerade because i couldn't get the paperwork done...shane went to see if the bois would be willing to let me in as a last minute thing since we had talked about it previously. they were very nice about it. then i had to find out a way to get the music off sylvan's mp3 player and onto lunatic's computer so that it could be played as i walked out. sarah figured it out for me and all went well. very happy with that one. brought my paperwork to the bois and the music to lunatic, and i was set to go. all i had to do now was see if i could actually skate across the stage. i was able to see it around 5ish, and realized that it was too slippery, so i went with the alternate. which was me in my boots with the skates on my shoulder. i was able to get some pictures taken of me with the skates on before i went on stage.

i ended up winning the most humorous award. and the look on michael's face when i came out and when seannan yelled "doorstop fairy" was just prescious. i only wish that i felt more comfortable on the skates to do some fun stuff on the stage. once i was done at the masquerade, i went to the FoB reception...i really wish they would put that on a different night. it's difficult when i would have liked to be there but i was in the masquerade instead. oh well...(oh and...i sent shane to 7-11 to get 2 packs of cloves 'cos i was almost out of my second pack.)
sunday was bad for me. i had like 2 hours of sleep...and went to the exec meeting. eventually i ended up down at the desk and tried to get sarah to walk away. she went and had lunch...which was good...but i started falling asleep at the computer. at that point karl made it known that once sarah came back i was to be taken straight away to my bed to sleep. well...i tried to sleep, but first the alarm went off...then my phone went off with a call from sallie mae...then i got a text message...then i got another call telling me they had ensalata caprese (which i couldn't remember so i called it cappellini--which was wrong) at the buffet. then i looked at the message that had come in and it was from tycho saying he was leaving. well that flipped me out. i found out later that it had come in from the previous night...just late...and was a misunderstanding. well there was no way to console me, and i sunk to the ground in a pool of my own tears 'cos i was exhausted and my key didn't work. yet another one in the stack that didn't work. eventually they got me up and took me out to the super secret office for a meeting. 2 more cloves down...possibly 3. sylvan brought me some caprese salad and that made me smile. he brought tycho a burger and that made him happy. then grizz brought me 2 keys that we thought would work. well...we were wrong. they worked for a bit...and then they were done. so we added them to the pile. by that time i was awake and there was no putting me back to bed. i got myself showered and dressed and back to the desk. (end of the 3rd pack of cloves) sunday night we went drinking and dancing and a bit of eating. all in all it was a good night. got some cuddle time with a good friend. hopefully i can tell zir what's on my mind.
monday was mostly pre-reg and pack down. took the boys to lunch 'cos they hadn't eaten yet. made sure everyone had food, and time away from the desk. by 3pm we were packed and waiting for logistics to show up. it was just unbelievable. i love the fact that everything was done with laptops which made it much easier to set up and tear down. i love the fact that i *honestly* didn't need to be there much to deal with anything 'cos everyone took care of it. after everything was packed up and moved out, we went to hiss n purr and waited for something to be said about reg. nothing...we didn't have any comments except that one person had lost her ID and donna had found it for her. i know there is at least one issue that needs to be brought up at the final brain dump, but other than that...reg ran incredibly smooth...even with the change of venue. AND...we get to change again next year. over 300 members have pre-registered already. online registration should be up and running by now. (half of the 4th pack down...by wednesday i was through the 4th and working on the 5th.)
and now...i gotta get ready for the next one. i'll be heading registration for westercon 60 this year. not exactly sure how i got suckered into that one, but i told karl he couldn't do it...i never said anything about me not doing it. **sigh** it's all good. it's not as big as BC or for that matter FC, so no worries.
well...i think that's it. i'm sure there's more that i'm missing, but i can't be sure. if you have spaces in my brain that you would like to fill in...feel free...and thanks again to the registration crew for doing such a great job!
